Toggo

Idefix – Vorsicht Römer

Every character from the Asterix spin-off gets a meaningful purpose in the game.

Idefix – Vorsicht Römer

The challenge

Created for Toggo and based on the Idefix and the Indomitables Asterix spin-off, this game was designed for a younger audience. All four main characters needed a unique gameplay mechanic that matched their personality and role in the show — while remaining useful in play, not just appearing as a cameo.

There was also a practical challenge: the game had to be developed within a tight timeframe and a small budget. A large 3D adventure with varied worlds and obstacles was simply outside the scope, while a classic puzzle game did not feel like the right fit for the audience or the energetic character of the show.

The design decision

I turned the Romans into the antagonists and built the game around sneaking past their patrols. Idefix and his crew move through increasingly challenging levels, connected by small story moments along the way.

Each character brings a distinct ability to the team, helping players bypass guards or overcome parts of the level in their own way. This gave every character a meaningful gameplay purpose — and let me combine action, character abilities, and a realistic production scope in one focused game.

The outcome

Top 10 most-played games of the week on Toggo, with the longest streak of the three case studies shown here.

A note on the numbers: these are kids'-audience placements, so there's no funnel or retargeting data. "Most-played" is the platform's own ranking, not a marketing metric — I'd rather say that plainly than dress it up.
